本届18强赛，国足遭遇三连败的开局，随后连续击败印尼和巴林，本场虽然不敌日本，但整体表现可圈可点。

现在看来，本届18强赛国足最吃亏的还是比赛经验，备战经验，对这个级别的比赛，无论节奏、强度、速度都缺乏认知。经过5场小组赛之后，才开始逐渐找到一点点踢这种级别比赛的感觉，两连胜收获了一些信心。

其次就是对各个对手的实力也缺少准确的预估和分析。都是用老眼光，用固有的认知去评估对手的实力。对于沙特和澳大利亚队的实力下降，没有及早进行预判。
